Assignment 1: (Part 1)
Comparing 1 minute to 10 minute:
My 10 minute drawing is far superior to my 1 minute drawing. The 1 minute drawing felt very rushed and I was still figuring out the layout of my still life. I got the basic shapes of my still life and for 1 minute that was not terrible for a beginner. My 10 minute drawing, I increased the size of the piece and the line thickness improved. I have felt that I could pick out each item that is in the 10 minute drawing compared to the 1 minute drawing. In the 10 minute drawing I also used more scribble lines and almost creating value in the project. Time helps when trying to portray to the audience it is what you are drawing. |

Assignment 3
3 drawings that inspired me
These drawings inspired me because there is more to us than the face we put on. I really wanted to try and incorporate a non-human element. I totally scraped my inspiration. One night I was laying in bed and looking through pictures of my fiancée and I, and the picture I chose to draw struck me. I wanted to drawing me in my true form. The man that I am. I am very happy and blessed in life. God sent me this beautiful woman and I get to marry her. She is my real inspiration! I drew the day I proposed and she was showing off her ring and I am smiling from ear to ear. She pushes me to my absolute best! My life would be in a completely different direction if it was not for her. Relating this back to the pictures I chose, Greta is what is under the face I put on.

The hardest part to me in my drawing was increasing the size. I had 1x1 inch grid on my reference and my actually drawing is 2.4x3 inch grid. Trying to make the picture bigger and still accurate was big concern. I am not a big face drawer either. I think the grid helped me and to create lines that lined up with other parts of my face help keep everything in line. Overall, I am happy with the way it turned out and I know that this my true self. I want everyone know that I am the happiest man in the world and I get to marry the woman who blew my dream girl out of the water!
Assignment 4
My piece is called, Duck-Duck. It is of a duck swimming in the first picture and then it is a roasted duck in the second drawing. I really did not have any artistic influences on my work. I wanted to create a diptych more personal to me. The duck represents my love for the outdoors. I love hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, etc. God has created these animals and nature and I love nothing more than being able to enjoy that. The roasted duck correlates to providing from the land around us, instead of eating out or getting stuff from the store. Eating game meat that you harvested yourself is the definition of a home-cooked meal. The duck’s overall meaning is showing the audience, that I love the outdoors and what it can provide for me.
My creative process was long. It took me forever to pick out a subject matter then I started drawing flying ducks and swimming ducks to show that aspect of the duck. That turned out to be the wrong idea, so I switched it up and showed how the duck relates to me.
Successes in the drawings for me are the portions. I was worried that the duck’s head would be too big for his body. Another was on the roasted duck nailing the shape of the duck was tough, but gridding out the paper helps so much. Overall, both drawings are easy to read, and the audience can understand what they are looking at.
Some difficulties I faced were trying to create the roasted texture on the duck, and on the swimming, the duck was the wetness of his hair by his neck. The texture method I tried using was cross-hatching and just drawing lines to shade. The wetness of the hair was the subtractive method with the eraser. I think the part that failed with that is the hair is very fine and the eraser was bigger than I needed.
